
A Legal Perspective: A Special Conversation with Michael Feldman
Michael Feldman, '66, was a partner at Proskauer Rose LLP from 1985 until his retirement in 2010. During his tenure at the firm, Michael was the founder and co-chair of the Lodging & Gaming Group, a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, and a co-chair of the Corporate Department.
His practice areas include hospitality, domestic and international mergers and acquisitions, and corporate finance. He is also a member of the American Arbitration Association and American Health Lawyers Association and has arbitrated numerous types of commercial disputes including those relating to joint ventures, commercial investments, shareholder matters, hotel management agreements, and marketing and advertising arrangements. Michael also serves as a mediator in commercial matters including disputes over joint ventures, investments, and development projects.
Michael serves as a consultant to numerous hospitality and entertainment companies in regards to business structure, succession planning, investment, and arbitration matters. His expertise in the field has led him to do work as an expert witness on behalf of Hilton Hotels and Marriott International Inc.
From 2009 to 2014, Michael was a faculty member of the NYU Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management. He taught courses in legal issues in hospitality and tourism, business development, and financial management in the hospitality industry. He is also a former chair of the Advisory Board of the NYU Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management.
Michael is a member of the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee, Chair of the Audit and Corporate Compliance Committee, and a member of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Northwell Health System—the largest health care system in the state of New York. He is also a co-chair and a member of the Board of Directors of the New York Hospitality Council, Inc.
Michael received his bachelor’s degree from Queens College in 1966 and his JD from Brooklyn Law School in 1969. He has repeatedly been recognized by Chambers USA as one of the leaders in the leisure and hospitality industries.
