Inside MSG: Gerard Passaro

Gerard Passaro, ’79, graduated from QC in 1979 with a BA and majored in Media Studies. He received his MA from Brooklyn College.  Gerry is currently the Senior Vice President of Network Operations at MSG. Prior to this, he was the Vice President of Programing and Affiliate Relations. Before joining MSG, Gerry was the Executive Producer of SportsChannel NY and was responsible for all aspects of the network's programming, production, and operations. SportsChannel NY is a two-channel regional sports network serving over 1.3 million households in NY, NJ, and southern CT. Gerry won a NY Emmy Award and has received four additional nominations. He currently serves as a Chair on the Awards Committee for the Nationals Academy of Television of Arts and Sciences NY.

Queens College students from the Media Studies department ventured out in the last snow storm of the season to meet with Madison Square Garden network executives Gerard Passaro, ‘79 and Jacqueline Lyons, ‘85. An industry veteran and Emmy Award winner, Gerry is Senior Vice President of Network Operations at MSG. Jackie has worked with Gerry for many years, and currently serves as Vice President of Network Operations at MSG.

Students were treated to an exciting and informative tour of MSG’s broadcasting facility.  Gerry and Jackie explained their day to day responsibilities and how each member of their team plays an integral role in the broadcast.

After the tour, Gerry and Jackie answered questions about breaking into the media business and the steps they took towards building their careers. The advice and guidance they provided was very well received by all the students who participated.
