A Conversation with Gary Garson and Symour Reisman: A Legal Perspective
Gary Garson '67 is a graduate of Queens College with a Bachelors Degree in Economics. That same year he enrolled in Brooklyn Law School where he was Articles Editor of Brooklyn Law Review. Gary was an associate at Lord, Day & Lord from 1970-1979. In 1979, he started his 36+ year career at Loews Corporation as Deputy General Counsel, a role in which he served until 2002, when he became Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Loews Corporation is a diversified public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Gross revenues in 2014 were $14.3 billion. Loews has 3 publicly traded subsidiaries: CNA Financial Corporation, Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners, LP. Each of these companies is publicly traded on the NYSE. Loews Corporation also has one wholly-owned subsidiary, Loews Hotels & Resorts, an operator of luxury hotels.
Gary has been involved in just about every type of corporate transaction there is, including debt and equity offerings, initial public offerings, spin-offs, mergers and acquisitions, dispositions and litigation. In addition, he is responsible for corporate governance at Loews and its relationship with its publicly owned subsidiaries, as well as all matters involving the SEC. He is primarily responsible for transactions in the United States, but he has handled transactions in Canada, Europe and Asia as well.
Seymour J. Reisman '56 was one of the three founding partners of Reisman Peirez Reisman & Capobianco in 1981, and he leads their Matrimonial and Family Law practice. Considered a leader in the field, Reisman lectures frequently before professional associations and community organizations on various aspects of marital law and the taxation and valuation of marital estates and has appeared as a guest on numerous television and radio programs.
A graduate of Queens College and Brooklyn Law School, Reisman has practiced law in New York since 1959 and is a member of the Nassau County, New York State and American Bar Associations. He served for eight years by appointment of the Appellate Division of the State of New York as a member of the Grievance Committee for the Tenth Judicial District (Nassau and Suffolk Counties). He also served as a director and member of the Judiciary Committee of the Nassau County Bar Association.
Sy Reisman has been a local resident of Roslyn Estates for the past 47 years, where he has utilized his legal expertise to serve as a Village Justice for the past 30 years. Prior to becoming the Village Justice of Roslyn Estates, he served on various community committees and is a past President of Roslyn’s Bryant Library. Presently, Sy is a member of the Family Law Section of the New York State and American Bar Association and a member of the Matrimonial Law Committee of the Nassau Bar Association, and a member of the New York Family Law American Inn of Court. He has been recognized annually in Super Lawyers, and in Best Lawyers in America.
