From Queens College to CEO of a Fortune 500 Company: Tips on How to Achieve your Goals
Michael Goldstein ’63 Mr. Goldstein, former Chairman of the Board of Toys “R” Us Inc., was involved with Toys “R” Us for over 20 years serving as Chief Executive Officer from 1994 to 1997. Prior to 1983, he was Senior Executive Vice President-Operations and Finance of Lerner Stores Corporation. Preceding that, he was a Partner of Ernst & Young in New York.
A magna cum laude graduate of Queens College with a B.S. in Economics, Mr. Goldstein was the recipient of the Haskins Gold Medal for achieving the highest score in the CPA examination in the State of New York.
He is on the Board of Pacific Sunwear (OTC). He was formerly the lead director on the Board of Medco Health Solutions (NYSE) and Chairman of the Board of Charming Shoppes (OTC), both companies sold in 2012.
He is Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of the Israel Discount Bank of New York and is on the boards of two other non-public companies: Med Express (majority owned by General Atlantic) and Ri Happy (a Brazilian toy retailer majority owned by Carlyle).
He is on the Advisory Board of Jefferies, Inc. and Proximiant. He is a Board member and former Chairman of the Board of the 92nd Street Y and serves on the board of Rosie’s Theatre Kids. Mr. Goldstein is Chairman of the Northside Center for Child Development.
Mr. Goldstein, appointed by President George W. Bush, served on ACTPN (Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations) from 2003-2004 and has been honored by the A.L.S. Foundation, The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, United Jewish Appeal and B’nai Brith, the NAACP, the Genetic Disease Foundation, Rosie’s Theatre Kids, The New York Restoration Project, the Video Game Industry, Discount Store Industry and is in the Toy Industry Hall of Fame.
