WHY I Support QC

 Robert Wann '82

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, Robert Wann joined New York Community Bank (then Queens County Savings Bank) as a staff accountant. He has been with the bank and its subsidiaries ever since. Rising through the ranks, Robert became Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer before being promoted to Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of New York Community Bancorp. He still holds this position and also serves on the company’s Board of Directors.

“If I had to describe my time at Queens College, I would say I was given a superior educational experience,” comments Robert. Having built such a successful career in the banking industry, he worked with his wife Shirley to create the Wann Family Foundation in 2002, which provides funding to religious, educational, medical, and humanitarian organizations. In addition, the Foundation also supports the Godwin-Ternbach Museum at Queens College. Robert and Shirley also established the Wann Family Foundation Scholarship Endowment, which provides scholarships for Accounting majors with superior academic standing. In addition, Robert plays an active role in planning and supporting the annual Queens College Golf and Tennis Classic.

Why I Give

“Supporting Queens College has been my privilege, giving back to an organization that has given me the tools and skills to accomplish my life goals,” Robert states. “The professors and mentors who influenced me during my college days also taught me the importance of helping others to obtain a quality education.” In addition to his generous financial contributions, Robert donates his time and talent by serving on the Queens College Foundation Board of Trustees.
