STUDENT PROFILES
Stephen Alexander ‘19
It is my sincere appreciation to be the recipient of the renowned Queens College Senior Class Legacy Scholarship. I am honored by the philanthropy of the Class of 2018. Because of their selflessness, a hardworking individual, both in our classrooms and in the community, is able to relieve the pressure of financial inadequacy that plagues many of our scholars and inner-city youth. This inspires me to continue persevering for the wellness of others.
I’m pursuing a BBA in Corporate Finance, Economics, and Accounting and a career as a hybrid "technological financial specialist.” My short-term career goal is establishing a non-profit organization to create workshops and internships enabling financial literacy and specialized skills in the tech industry—which are two major fields in the workforce today. This will help contribute to financial growth, societal advancement, and offer a solution to minimize poverty.
“Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.” - Sherry Anderson.
Education fused with ambition is the key to success, and I incorporate my spirit for education with my passion for helping others. As a result, I joined the board of directors of New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), a statewide non-profit organization. One of our main feats there consisted of leading large NY State student body drives to effectively save our student activity fee; resulting in protecting student government and NY State colleges’ (SUNY and CUNY) services and activities. I’m also on the board of QC’s Technology Fee Committee, VP of a Christian club, and a teacher’s assistant for the Economics Department.
Outside of academics, I’ve proudly taken part in various ventures, such as being a senior counselor for Boy Scouts, paraprofessional for Excel Charter School, and a NYC junior basketball league coach. Additionally, I have been the recipient of the American Institute of CPA’s Accounting Leadership Program, the PhD Project, and Delta Airlines Scholarship Award. I hope to one day maximize my God-given gifts to be a monumental servant leader.
Conclusively, these factors have made my experience at Queens College eventful and unforgettable. That is why I, too, hope to continue the Queens College Senior Class Legacy tradition by donating to the Scholarship Fund alongside the graduating Class of 2019, so that we can together discover, fund, and propel forward the next student leader who is awarded this scholarship.
