I have decided to give back to Queens College for a specific reason. I started college in 1981 and never finished. I had a few remaining credits to finish my BA but I just stopped school in 1985. I married, had 3 children, and started a career in advertising. I play the flute in an 80 piece Symphonic band so my cup is full! My life is fabulous however, I still did not feel complete without my degree. With the help of my career counselor, the acting provost, academic advisement, the chairman of the music department and chairman of the history department, we put together a map of courses to follow so that I could graduate in Spring 2015.
I have enjoyed my three semesters at Queens so much that I am inspired to go on to graduate school or to find some way to give back to students who are on the verge of quitting or don't know what they want to do in their life. In May 2015 I know tears of joy will be streaming down my face because I will be receiving my long awaited BA in interdisciplinary studies ( Music and History). It has been such a sad burden to carry around my incomplete degree for 30 years. I knew that I must finish. The teachers and staff at Queens have guided me through this wonderful journey and I will feel forever grateful. It was an easy decision to give back and it's the best way I can say thank you from the bottom of my heart!
