STUDENT PROFILES

Mahnoor Mirza, ‘18

It is a great honor to be the recipient of the Queens College Senior Class Legacy Scholarship. I am grateful to the Class of 2017 whose generous contributions and unwavering support made this award possible. This scholarship is significant to me as it not only provides financial backing but also encourages me in my education and efforts as a community leader. I am able to continue on my path to success by completing college this semester with a major in Psychology and minors in Business & Liberal Arts and Student Personnel (Peer Counseling). My academics have been an integral part of my journey through Queens College as they have challenged and molded me into an even better version of myself. I have learned to be more open but also to not take everything at face value; I have learned to question, be confident, and be part of the constant struggle to improve our community, our neighborhood, and most importantly, ourselves. With such belief, I founded the QC Nisa Student Association, an organization to inspire, support, and empower young Muslim women by creating a safe space that fosters healthy discourse, learning, and overall growth. This initiative has been a success in not only empowering the Muslim women on campus but also in establishing outreach and collaboration with other clubs.

Furthermore, in order to cultivate myself outside of my education, I have taken part in various ventures such as becoming a Student Council member at QC’s Asian American Center, writing for QC Voices and The Knight News and being an ambassador in the National Model United Nations. Additionally, I was selected and am successfully undertaking the National Muslim Women Fellowship based out of Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government and the CUNY Pipeline to Justice Program (Pre-Law). I hope to one day become an effective and outstanding human rights lawyer and to continue affecting positive change.

All of these factors have made my experience at Queens College unique and unforgettable. That is why I, too, hope to continue the Queens College Senior Class Legacy tradition by donating to the Scholarship fund alongside the graduating Class of 2018, so that we can together discover, fund, and propel forward the next student leader who is awarded this scholarship.
