“It is a great honor to be the first recipient of the Queens College Senior Class Legacy Scholarship. This scholarship has a significant role in my work not only because of its financial support, but it has propelled me to continue to grow as an academic and community leader. This award was made possible through the contributions from the Class of 2016, and their eagerness to discover, recognize, and support a member of the subsequent graduating class— truly making Queens College unique. That is why I look forward to continuing this tradition by donating to the Senior Class Legacy Scholarship fund, and working alongside the graduating Class of 2017, so we can together fund, discover, and learn from the next student leader who is awarded with this scholarship.
Throughout my undergraduate career at Queens College, I have sought to grow both as a neuroscience researcher and community organizer. Although these two fields may seem unrelated, they have collectively facilitated my growth as a student, community member, and leader. Concurrently, I am concluding my research in neuronal circuits at Dr. Joshua Brumberg’s laboratory. As first author, it is with great pleasure that I will be representing both our work and Queens College in future neuroscience and psychology conferences. In addition, I continue to serve as an advocate for migrant communities of color through my participation in CUNY Tutor Corps— a program designed to provide math and computer science tutoring services to NYC public middle and high schools. This opportunity has given me the pleasure of introducing a younger generation of students from diverse backgrounds to careers in the fields of STEM.”
