QUEENS COLLEGE ONLINE DONATION

Thank you for your gift to the Andrew Beveridge Memorial Endowment Fund, which will support collaborative faculty-student research. The endowment, which needs to reach a minimum of $25,000 in order to become active, has been established as a matching fund: all contributions up to $25,000 will be matched by Professor Beveridge’s family. Please consider donating generously to honor Andy’s memory and support research collaboration that will help empower future generations of students.
Andrew Alan Beveridge was a sociologist, demographic researcher, and entrepreneur, and a beloved member of the Queens College and CUNY Grad Center community. A graduate of Yale, he taught first at Columbia University from 1973 to 1981. He then joined the Queens College faculty where he played a prominent role until his retirement in 2020. He served as departmental chair from 2006 to 2018, directed the Applied Social Research program, and was a popular teacher, active scholar, and participant in many college and CUNY committees and programs, including the CUNY Institute for Demographic Research. Throughout his career, Andy sought to engage in meaningful research and to communicate his findings to diverse audiences through scholarly and popular media, most notably as a consultant for The New York Times from 1993 on. He shared his expertise in the field of demographics and use of Census data through projects, presentations, and assistance with legal cases that would help advance equality, fairness and social justice. He and former Queens student Ahmed Lacevic developed Social Explorer to enable countless others to more easily access, analyze and visualize Census and other demographic data. The company they founded (along with Andy’s wife Fredrica) almost 20 years ago continues to grow and serve the needs of researchers, students, nonprofits, government and business users.
